Throughout the week of Thanksgiving, over 300 volunteers joined together in one of the world’s biggest wars- hunger. We cooked 417 turkeys and over 5,700 lbs of side dishes, along with bread and desserts, to be delivered on November 25. With the help of our sponsors and donations made throughout the community, F5K was able to prepare 5,300 meals to be delivered across a five-county area, from Port Charlotte to Immokalee!

I just wanted to give everyone an update on our Feeding the 5000: Thanksgiving Mission. Throughout the week of Thanksgiving, over 300 volunteers joined together in one of the world’s biggest wars- hunger. The USDA reports that 49 million American’s struggle with food insecurity. 37 million people have sought help from food pantries and banks, and 1 in 6 don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Well, I am proud to say that on Thanksgiving Day, more than 5,000 people in Southwest Florida ate hot meals with their families.

F5K spent the entire week preparing 417 turkeys at an estimated weight of 13.5 lbs… that’s over 5,600 lbs total! We also fixed over 7,500 lbs of stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and green beans, as well as bread and desserts.

With the help of our sponsors and donations made throughout the community, F5K was able to prepare 5,300 meals to be delivered across a five-county area, from Port Charlotte to Immokalee! Additionally, after all of the requests were filled, we had enough food for another 520 meals! These meals were donated to the Salvation Army and Good Shepard Mission.

The Feeding the 5000: Thanksgiving Mission would like to give a special thank you to Tom & Anne Mullins, Cheryl & Cayla Frogge, Art & Susan Nicoletti, and Kelly Sonnanstine for all of their hard work in making this Mission spread far and wide. We would also like to say thank you to Marg & Danny Brooks for making a large donation of breads and desserts on the night before! Target, Costco, Publix, Caslistoga Bakery, Lamb of God Church, and Thrivent Financial each deserve special recognition for their contributions and donations to the Thanksgiving Mission.

Finally, we would like to thank all of our volunteers in the surrounding communities. Whether you made a donation, helped during the event, or included us in your prayers, we could not have done this without you!
