Feeding 5000 in SW FL

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and the Feeding the 5000 committee is working hard to make sure that all needy families receive a meal on Thanksgiving Day. Although the job market in SW Florida has seen some improvement over the last year, the slow recovery continues to force many families to seek help. “Feeding the 5000” is a Thanksgiving program that works to insure that no one in our area goes hungry at Thanksgiving. Your efforts in support of the 2012 Feeding The 5000: Thanksgiving Outreach made it an overwhelming success. Volunteer and financial support poured in from throughout the community making our outreach mission truly a community effort to help those in need.

Thanksgiving 2012

Feeding the 5000 fed over 6,700 meals on Thanksgiving Day 2012! This year, over 700 volunteers came together to cook, package, and deliver 6,700+ meals–that’s over 400 turkeys and more than 8,000 lbs of side dishes! In the past 5 years, we’ve provided over 30,000 meals in our community.

Feeding the 5,000 feeds over 6,000

By Dave Elias, NBC2 Investigator – Nearly 1,000 stood in line Thursday at the Estero Lamb of God Church to receive Thanksgiving Day meals. However they weren’t standing in line for themselves, but rather others. The 1,000 people were all volunteers from Lee, Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties. Feeding the 5000 to deliver on Thanksgiving

Cape Coral resident, Zachary Panino, 14, and a dozen of his family members volunteered to separate turkey meat for the Thanksgiving outreach, Feeding the 5000, at Lamb of God Church off Estero Parkway. More than 400 volunteers are working together this week to prepare and deliver 6,500 meals to people in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. Hundreds of volunteers needed to help with Thanksgiving Mission in south Fort Myers

Area food banks, churches and shelters collect donations for Thanksgiving, Christmas
